Electronic Arts Studio denies reports of working on the development of a Dead Space 2 remake after reports suggested that it was shelved.
This was supposedly due to lackluster sales for the team's Dead Space remake that was released last year. EA has said that it does not typically comment on such rumors but noted that there was no "validity to this story."
EA Denies Rumors About Dead Space 2 Remake
The story that was referenced was when Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb reported about EA's Motive Studio seemingly working on a remake of the second game in the franchise. He also noted that the Dead Space 2 remake was supposedly in the conception phase and pre-production stage before being put on hold.
Grubb's information bomb was made after Motive general manager Patrick Klaus announced that the studio was creating a new team to support EA's Battlefield franchise. He added that work on the development of its Iron Man game with Marvel was still ongoing, according to GameInformer.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Grubb said that he would let anyone who believes EA do so but offered a warning.
He said that whenever a company says that something is not true, but does not specify just what part, it should be taken with a grain of salt. He continued to say that the Dead Space 2 remake was definitely being planned and had a codename but was scrapped.

The situation comes after Dead Space remake creative director Roman Campos-Oriola was asked about the possibility of a remake for the sequel.
He said that they need to see how the game performs, what the company wants, what the studio wants, and what they, as a team, want to do before figuring out how to move forward.
While EA itself has not reported the Dead Space remake's official sales, it was found to be the best-selling new game in the United States in January 2023. However, there were also contradicting reports that say the remake either did well or missed expectations.
Shelving the Development of a New Remake
The Dead Space Remake was first released in early 2023 and was able to earn positive reviews for its visual fidelity and its creative expansion of the base game. It also raised hopes that EA would continue to make a remake of the sequel, which many fans loved, said IGN.
The controversy comes as a few weeks ago, EA laid off hundreds of employees, canceled a Star Wars shooter from Respawn Entertainment, and closed Ridgeline Games. The latter is a studio that was founded explicitly to assist with single-player content in the Battlefield franchise.
There have been times in the past when the Dead Space franchise has been put on hold. Following the release of Dead Space 3 in 2013, the title failed to meet sales expectations and EA transferred Visceral Games to instead work on the Battlefield franchise.
After the launch of Battlefield Hardline, Visceral Games went on to work on a Star Wars game codenamed Ragtag, which was canceled in 2017 before the studio was closed down, according to Windows Central.
