Saviorless, a Cuban Indie Game
Players can immerse themselves into a deep narrative-driven platform that has unique enemy designs and multiple characters with full hand-drawn animation. The title also has an evocative and haunting soundtrack that accompanies the player in their quest through the many mysterious and visually stunning environments.
The game's two playable protagonists let players experience dynamic gameplay that switches between them as they each have unique abilities and particular challenges to overcome. Players will have to help the fragile and reckless Antar as she struggles to discover the secrets of the islands through exploration and puzzle-solving mechanics, according to Nintendo Everything.
The Savior is a violent masked avatar who was born to protect the children against the horse of bizarre monsters and bosses that haunt the land of the Saviors. Players will have to endure fast-paced and intense combats against everything that stands in their way as they try to escape the land.
The enemies that players will encounter in Saviorless include odd, smiling bug creatures that have multiple mouths, bipedal mutants, and crab-like creatures that have massive, sharp blades. The Cuban indie game has been in development for eight years.

The title has suffered through political upheaval, budget constraints, copyright issues over the game's original name, "Savior," and the departure of a key developer. All of these factors played a role in delaying the release further and further, said PCGamesN.
The team behind the title is Empty Head Games, which had a successful fundraiser for Saviorless back in 2017. They used the fledgling internet access in the island nation that was relatively new to the region.
Challenges in Bringing Saviorless to Life
The project's head, Josuhe Pagliery, said that the true significance of Saviorless' development is in the potential to become the first Cuban indie game to achieve global success and visibility across consoles and online platforms. He added that this would be the real achievement and could become a catalyst for the Cuban game development scene.
The main focus of Saviorless is on avoiding enemies and obstacles that the players encounter throughout their journey in the Smiling Islands. Pagliery added that Cuba presents a unique challenge for aspiring video game developers. He said that, unlike other nations, there is no established industry to learn from or draw upon for inspiration.
Furthermore, the social reality adds another layer of difficulty, due to limited resources, and infrastructure, as well as a precarious economic situation. Inexperienced creators face a lack of access to investment, international markets, and skilled professionals across various aspects of game development.
Despite the challenges that Pagliery's team faced, the outcome of bringing Saviorless and its breathtaking world to various platforms is already seen as a miracle. The title has not two levels that are the same and the challenges are ever-evolving, according to Epic Games.
