Content Warning is an April Fools Day Game That Urges Player To Become Viral on SpookTube or Die Trying

April Fools brought a lot of unimaginable ideas in the gaming industry that were simply too outlandish to be true but Content Warning, which was released on Apr. 1, 2024, is actually playable and takes on a dark setting.

Content Warning urges players to become viral on a platform called SpookTube or die trying. This is done by going to spooky and haunted places, recording their adventures, and raking in the views.

The title was created by Landfall, which is the studio that is also responsible for Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and is considered to be the king of the gag game. The company had previously released playable parodies of famous titles, including PUBG, which was called Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, and Knightfall, a horse-drifting racer.

This year, the target of the parody game is Lethal Company, and its alternate version is Content Warning. It is a two to four-player co-op horror game that, in just the first few hours on Steam, has already received a "Very Positive" review summary with more than 400 reviews and climbing, according to PCGamer.

While for the game's first 24 hours, it would be free, Landfall said that it plans to charge $8 for the title. Content Warning lets players start out in their headquarters, which is found in a farmhouse in the middle of a forest. There is a terminal where they can customize their character's face by typing out ASCII characters.

In the game, players will have three inventory slots, four flashlights, and a camera but instead of reaching a scrap quota, they will have a view quota. The goal of the game is to reach a certain threshold of views on the platform SpookTube over the next three days.

One of the maps in the game was dark and was set in a completely indoor facility that had scratched black texturing on every surface. There are a few creatures that could hop out of nowhere and follow players.

Becoming Viral on SpookTube

In Content Warning, players will want to film as many terrifying things as they can before they run out of camera batteries or even oxygen. These moments come in a variety of shapes and sizes and could either be laser beams or haunted dolls or perhaps tentacled monsters that will chase players down, said PCGamesN.

After filming, players can go back to base, upload the footage, and watch the money come in while sitting on the sofa. However, this peace will only last until they have to go back and film another set of spooky and scary moments to become viral on SpookTube.

The more viral the videos become the more money that players get, letting them have more resources to buy and upgrade gear that will let them go back and survive for longer while trying to get more footage for SpookTube. The publisher of the game said that they were bringing the game for free for the first day so that many people could have the chance to play it, according to GamesRadar.
