Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been facing an uphill battle for quite some time as the number of players continues to dwindle and the new Season 1 update, which adds Joker, has not brought the raucous laughter that was expected of it.
Despite the new update causing a temporary spike of up to 10 times the number of players compared to the average, the new patch was met with mostly silence. The game has had a difficult run since its launch and the new playable character did not help in attracting more players.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's Season 1 Update
Rocksteady's live service superhero game has once again been met with a sparse and uninviting season of content. It has even struggled to reach a few hundred players on Steam for the past few weeks.
It was never going to be that one-season patch that would fix the game's underlying problems and fix its grindy and repetitive activities. However, the actual launch has caught the ire of players due to how it actively goes against what the community was expecting, according to PCGamesN.
One of the things that players complained about is that they now need to grind a new free battle pass up to level 35 in order to unlock Joker as a playable character. While there are three new Incursions that help players with their efforts, they have essentially been given a grind just to fully unlock the character. It's either they spend time for that or just simply pay $10 to unlock Joker outright.

They were also discontent with grinding through the new incursions that the latest update added. Rocksteady has said during the launch of the new content that as players "take the fight to Brainiac this Episode, you'll encounter some new Incursions!"
These give players a single objective, which is to kill bad guys and each of the three Incursions will involve a different group of enemies to fight. Season 1 also did not add much to the game's story, which many players see as lacking for the company.
A Dwindling Playerbase
One of the few things that the new update adds story-wise is players getting an animated intro that explains Joker's world and Brainiac's invasion. It also features a cutscene that introduces him to Amanda Waller's Task Force X, said Polygon.
The new Season 1 update also adds a cosmetically modified version of Metropolis that has been corrupted with nice-looking Joker imagery. However, this content, alongside the new Incursions missions, cosmetics, and gear, has not been enough to renew interest in the game.
When Rocksteady promoted the new update, there was mention of a new activity called "Stronghold" that heavily implied a new type of endgame activity. This was teased under the heading "New Activities" in the art that appears when players beat the game. It was later seen in the Season 1 promo images where it shifted to "New Strongholds."
However, with the launch of Season 1 and the Joker, nothing new has been added that only new Incursions were seen. These are essentially the same as the previous ones but with new kill-counter-based objectives, according to Forbes.
