Apex Legends Hacker Destroyer2009 Speaks Out

Following the uproar caused by the hack, the perpetrator, identified as Destroyer2009, has come forward to shed light on his motives behind the disruptive act. In an exclusive interview with TechCrunch, Destroyer2009 claimed responsibility for the hacks, citing his actions as a blend of amusement and a push for heightened security measures by Respawn, the game's developer.

Destroyer2009 declined to disclose the intricacies of his hacking method, stating his intent to wait until Respawn resolves the vulnerabilities before divulging further details. However, he hinted that the exploit exclusively targeted the Apex Legends game process itself and not any external servers or player devices.

The hacker maintained that his actions were not malicious but rather intended as a lighthearted gesture towards players. He emphasized the potential career-threatening consequences if a similar exploit were executed without comedic elements, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Justification for Public Exposure

Destroyer2009 defended his decision to publicly expose the security flaw instead of discreetly notifying Respawn or its parent company, EA. He argued that the lack of financial incentives for hackers or security researchers to report such vulnerabilities privately discouraged him from pursuing that route.

Despite the alarming revelations brought to light by Destroyer2009, Respawn swiftly responded to the situation. They initiated a series of security updates aimed at mitigating the exploit, with the first set of patches already deployed on Mar. 19.
