Japanese video game company SNK teased Fatal Fury: City of Wolves during the recent SNK World Championships and is slated for a release in 2025.
The release of the latest installment following the 1999 game marks the franchise's first entry back into the scene in more than two decades. Additionally, SNK shared more information regarding the classic fighting game and introduced some of the characters gamers will soon get a chance to play.
Fatal Fury: City of Wolves Teaser
The new game will feature the return of Terry Bogard, sans hat, as well as Rock Howard. Fatal Fury: City of Wolves will also give players the option of choosing from Hotaru Futaba, the griffin mask-wearing Tizoc as well as a new character known as Preecha, who is the star pupil of another popular character in the game, Joe Higashi.
Players will have to wait for more announcements before they get to see which other characters will make their comeback and which ones will make their entry into the fighting game. SNK also noted that another new feature in the latest installment is the so-called "REV System," according to PCMag.
This is a new power meter system that promises to allow players to dish out massive damage using a variety of special attacks and techniques. The game's developer added that many of the classic Fatal Fury battle systems will be coming back, which include Combination Attacks, Just Defense, Braking, Dodge Attacks, and Feints.

SNK said that these are all systems that return to the fighting game after more than two decades and have evolved to meet modern-day technology. The franchise was considered to be among the most popular fighting games in the 1990s alongside Capcom's Street Fighter and Midway's Mortal Kombat.
Unfortunately, SNK stopped the development of the Fatal Fury games as the company faced bankruptcy in the early 2000s. This was the result of the decline of the video game arcade industry. The good thing is that the game's characters continued to bring joy to fans through SNK's other franchise, the King of Fighters series.
New Features and Mechanics
The demo that was featured during the recent SNK World Championships featured five characters from the game's unreleased roster. Among them, the new character, Preecha, was designed so that new players can enjoy fighting with her, said GameSpot.
The game's director, Hayato Konya, said that she made it as a way for players to "dip their toes into the pool before jumping in fully." Fatal Fury: City of Wolves also features a modernized control scheme that is suited to accommodate new and novice players.
Visually speaking, the new installment has an emphasis on shading that gives the game a '90s comic book aesthetic. The characters' super-move flashes are bold and pop out with stunning colors.
On top of new features and mechanics, the game gives returning characters some new tools at their disposal. For example, Tizoc, while being able to do his classic moves, can now execute a lunging grab that most grappler-focused players will enjoy taking advantage of, according to The Gamer.
