Final Fantasy XIV is switching things up in the upcoming Dawntrail expansion after players weren't thrilled with the easy-peasy Manderville Relic Weapons in Endwalker. The game's director and producer, Naoki Yoshida, spilled the beans in an interview with PLAY magazine, saying they heard the complaints and are fixing it.

Old Ways and the Endwalker Fiasco
In the old days, getting powerful Relic weapons meant doing long quests in A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. Stormblood and Shadowbringers added field missions, but Endwalker got some side-eye for its simple money-grab approach. Yoshida admitted it made things easy for folks with lots of jobs but promised something different for Dawntrail.
Dawntrail Relics are Going Back to Basics
People griped about Endwalker's one-size-fits-all quest, missing the variety and goals of the old days. Past Relic quests had flaws, like too much grinding or weird Field Operations. Yoshida says Dawntrail Relics will be a mix of easy and challenging, giving players different ways to make their weapons better without getting stuck in a boring money routine.
"Fans will have to wait a bit to see what Dawntrail Relics are like. Dawntrail hits Final Fantasy XIV this summer, but Relic weapons usually come a bit later. So, look for the new Relic quest in late 2024 or early 2025."
