DrinkBox Studios had a big hit with the fantastic Guacamelee!, a Metroidvania-style game that took you through a stunning Dia De Los Muertos-themed world as a Lucadore, and their latest title looks just as impressive. Entitled Severed, it features the kind of bright, colorful graphics the studio is famous for, here in a first-person dungeon crawler- about as far from the side-scrollers they're known for (Guacamelee!, Mutant Blobs Attack and About a Blob) as you can get.
"Severed follows the saga of a distraught warrior, lost in a fantastical world, as she knits together pieces of her story from both the past and the future. As the heroine, players will embark on a journey through a surreal, nonlinear world by using a gesture-based combat mechanic to defeat enemies in this first-person adventure. During their journey, players will unlock new abilities, discover secrets of the land, and grow in power as they master both offensive and defensive techniques."
The game will feature nonlinear gameplay that allows you to explore this mysterious world at your own pace, and features motion-based mechanics to combat enemies and interact with the world. There will be some light RPG elements and an original soundtrack from Juno nominated band YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN and kulintang ensemble Pantayo.
As you'll see in the video, this seems that this would be the perfect game to take advantage of the touch screens on the Vita and 3DS, although the list of systems hasn't been announced yet. If it's anything like Guacamelee! it will eventually make it to every platform.
Severed is slated for release in spring 2015. Check out the trailer below and watch it immediately spring up on your radar.
