Balancing Combat with Dialogue and Stealth Solutions
While Avowed takes inspiration from Vermintide's combat, Patel assured players that combat won't be the only way to progress through the game. Although a pure pacifist run won't be possible, nonviolent solutions through dialogue and some stealth options will still be available. The game aims to strike a balance, drawing from the success of Obsidian's previous title, Pillars of Eternity.
Freedom to Explore and Approach Problems
Avowed's key feature is the freedom it provides for exploration and problem-solving. Patel emphasized the game's non-linear nature, allowing players to explore various locations and points of interest. Obsidian aims to accommodate diverse player approaches, fos tering a dynamic and personalized gaming experience.
As Obsidian refines Avowed's mechanics, the experimental knockout gun has been scrapped. The focus is now on refining combat and providing alternative solutions for player clarity.
While a pure pacifist run won't be possible, Avowed assures a rich RPG experience with a focus on player choice. The game will feature Skyrim-like ability trees instead of traditional classes and is slated for a fall release, as announced during the recent Xbox Developer Direct show.
