Senior writer Stephen Rooney recently shed light on the intentional quirks infused into Astarion's character, providing players with a deeper understanding of the charming blood-sucker.

A Reflection of the Writer's Essence
Rooney, known for his candid storytelling, admitted to infusing a bit of himself into Astarion's character. Referencing the in-game narrator's acknowledgment of Astarion's "teasing cells," Rooney emphasized the importance of personal connection in character creation. "I never feel more seen than when Astarion is being a giant dumbass," Rooney shared.
Unveiling Astarion's Clumsy Nature
Astarion's charming but often inept behavior is evident throughout the game, from his tendency to get lost easily to his less-than-stealthy attempts at concealing his vampiric identity. Rooney pointed out instances such as Astarion's inability to hide his true nature, from red eyes and fangs to impulsive actions like murdering a vampire hunter.
Despite Astarion's lack of foresight, Rooney highlighted the character's improvisation skills, shaped by his tumultuous 200 years as a vampire under oppressive conditions.
