Fans of the action-strategy game Minecraft Legends are going to be saddened by the news that Mojang Studios will cease development of the game nearly a year after it was released.
What Happened?
According to Cristina Anderca, Senior Creative Writer at Mojang Studios, the Minecraft Legends team is now going to "take a step back from development," citing that they have already made the changes and tweaks the game needed to become better.
Anderca did not go into the specifics, but there are possible reasons why the company had to halt active development for Minecraft Legends.
First, the game is not not popular at all. In fact, when looking at the game's statistics from the Steam Charts, it only had an all-time peak of 5,088 players and a 24-hour peak of just 27. The general sentiment of those who have played the game is that it looks good and it is fun for a few hours, but after that, the game is just too boring and monotonous.
Second, the game has not received any new content since November of last year. Although it introduced a bunch of new content, such as the frog mount, witch, and piglin clanger, to name a few, it still did not attract a lot of attention.
The company also hosted some Lost Legends to keep things interesting. They are special events where players can get some exclusive limited-time goodies. But, the Lost Legends were not enough to make a significant positive impact.
Third, some players said that the game is just too overpriced for what seems to be a "no-effort Minecraft spinoff." For those who do not know, Minecraft Legends is currently being sold for $39.99.

What Now?
Despite the fact that the game will no longer receive any new content patches, Anderca said that players can still enjoy it to their hearts' content without any worries. The team will still release bug fixes and improvements from time to time. That said, the game is now officially in maintenance mode.
As a gift to loyal players, the company is going to give them one last freebie, the Bright-Eyed Hero Skin. Those who are interested in getting their hands on it can claim it from the in-game marketplace.
So, what can you say about this? Are you saddened by the news or does this not bother you at all? Let us know in the comments.
