Khameleon Joins the Official Kameo Roster in Mortal Kombat 1 Soon

Almost a month after Quan-Chi was released, developer NetherRealm Studios announced that the deadly vixen Khameleon is set to join the Kameo roster in Mortal Kombat 1 next week.

Khameleon was first teased alongside Quan-Chi late last year. However, only Quan-Chi was made available since NetherRealm Studios has employed a timed release strategy, seemingly as a way to keep players interested in the game.

Who is She?

Khameleon, for the uninitiated, is actually not an entirely new fighter. She was first introduced in the Nintendo 64 version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy as a hidden unlockable character. What makes her special is that she is able to utilize the main weapons of other female ninjas, including Mileena's Sai, Jade's Staff, and Kitana's Steel Fans.

That said, she will be available as a Kameo fighter in Mortal Kombat 1 on Tuesday, January 16.

Kameo Fighters are a new mechanic in Mortal Kombat 1 where players can choose another character to fight alongside their main ones. They can be summoned at any point during a match to extend combos and provide some aid whenever the players need it.

Not Enthused

Despite the recent announcement, the Mortal Kombat 1 community is not enthusiastic about Khameleon's addition to the Kameo roster. User IBreakemoffI said on X/Twitter that they have a huge issue with Kameos, in general, particularly with how solo characters rely on them heavily to do anything cool. They added that NetherRealm Studios should have just spent its resources to make the main characters better without the "Kameo crutch."

Another user asked the company why the community has to wait such a long time for a new character to be introduced. User emo_winecooler replied that this is embarrassing because Khameleon does not even join the roster as a main character, but only as an assistant.

Aside from that, Adam407 expressed that NetherRealm Studios needs to address some pressing issues about the game. For instance, the company should add more inventory space for trivial things, such as keys, items, and talismans. Besides that, the Forge needs some improvements because it "feels largely pointless."
