Innovative Navigation with “Memory Shards”

The new feature allows players to mark and annotate the in-game map by capturing a screenshot of their current location and pinning it. This provides a means to easily revisit specific areas, particularly those previously inaccessible due to the lack of certain powers or abilities.

Senior gameplay programmer Cristophe de Labrouche shared insights into the development process, mentioning extensive testing to gauge player reception. He noted that players, once familiar with the feature, have found it to be a valuable addition, using it extensively throughout the game.

According to senior game designer Rémi Boutin, player feedback has been positive, with many expressing the helpfulness and natural integration of the feature. Boutin believes that the introduction of "Memory Shards" pushes the boundaries of the Metroidvania genre and hopes to see similar features adopted in other games.

While Ubisoft has incorporated map-based features in previous titles like Assassin's Creed for social sharing purposes, the integration of screenshots within the map for navigation in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown represents a novel approach. This addition is expected to enhance the exploration aspect of the Metroidvania genre, providing players with a practical tool for strategic gameplay.
