First teased in Game Awards 2023 in December, EA has finally revealed more details about the upcoming "Final Fantasy Rebirth" event in Apex Legends. So, what can players expect?
It's a Fantasy
EA and Square Enix have collaborated to bring Final Fantasy VII characters to the epic battle royale game via the Rebirth event coming next week. This collaboration was made to promote Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the remake series, which is slated for release at the tail end of February.
Once the event goes live on January 9, players will be able to wield the iconic Buster Sword when they find it anywhere on the battlefield. This weapon allows players to perform unique attacks and block enemy fire to reduce damage taken. After successfully hitting opponents with the Buster Sword, a special meter fills up that will enable the wielder to execute the quintessential Limit Break.
Players will also find Hop-Ups in the shape of "Materia" that can either spawn in the world or be found inside walking loot boxes called "Cackticks." Materia Hop-Ups are special themed attachments that can only be used on certain weapons.
Now, there are five different Materia Hop-Ups that players can pick up, such as:
-
Blue Materia (HP Absorb)
-
Damage enemies to heal yourself
-
-
Green Materia (Lightning)
-
Reload an empty weapon to emit a shock nova, damaging and slowing nearby enemies
-
-
Purple Materia (Crit Rate Up)
-
Random criticals provide extra damage
-
-
Red Materia (Summon)
-
Summon a Nessie companion to attack your foes
-
-
Yellow Materia (Assess)
-
Damage enemies to see their remaining HP

New Cosmetics
Players will have a chance to obtain Final Fantasy VII character skins for specific Legends inside the limited-time Event Packs. This includes:
-
"Cloud Strife" skin for Crypto
-
"Tifa Lockheart" skin for Wraith
-
"Aerith Gainsborough" skin for Horizon
-
"Barrett Wallace" skin for Newcastle
-
"Yuffie Kisaragi" skin for Valkyrie
-
"Moogle" skin for Wattson
There are a total of 36 cosmetic items players can acquire from the Rebirth event. Fortunately, opening the Event Packs does not result in duplicate items, so those who will purchase enough packs can certainly acquire all of the goodies the event has to offer.
In addition, players can earn a special currency called "Gil" just by playing the event mode and completing challenges. Gil can be used as a way to unlock event-exclusive items from the Rewards Shop. The said shop will rotate its inventory every week. Players who want to complete the entire collection from the Rebirth event should pay the Rewards Shop a visit every so often.
Aside from that, players have the option of spending Gil to earn additional battle pass XP to further their seasonal progress.
