Google Glass Release Date: On Sale For One Day Next Week in U.S. at Exorbitant Cost

Google Glass Sale for One Day Planned for Next Week, Anyone Will be Able to Purchase the Wearable Device

Google is preparing for its biggest Glass push yet, planning a one day sale of the wearable device that will be available to everyone.

According to The Verge, who obtained private documents about the plans, this one day sale could come as soon as next week, and would allow anyone interested in the technology to grab a pair. It has been made clear that this is not a full sale release, but Google's most significant attempt so far to test the device with the largest number of people.

The move, in addition to getting Google a big batch of beta testers, would likely serve to increase hype and excitement around the device. If people aren't interested enough to purchase Glass during this one day sale (or are unaware of it), seeing more people in public using the augmented reality glasses should spur more interest and discussion, which will only help Google's efforts. It will be pretty costly, however, as the device is valued at $1,500.

This is deal is reportedly only available in the U.S., and is an extension of the existing Explorers Program, which gives a select number of users the chance to test and use the device. Glass is currently in the hands of around 10,000 people, so this should increase the testing population exponentially.

The device is becoming more relevant, even saving a life at a Boston hospital. A full retail launch for Glass is expected to be announced for later this year, but Google has remained mum on their exact plans--keep an eye out here for more details.
