Just a few more hours until PAX East kicks off in Boston this weekend, and publisher 2K Games has announced what they'll bringing to the table.
Gearbox's Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was only formally announced yesterday, but it'll be on-site for some hands on time. And joining the wub wub will also be the next game from Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock, Evolve. Enjoy, first-person shooter fans, and rejoice.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel stars a younger version of Borderlands 2's dictatorial Hyperion despot, Handsome Jack, with his lieutenants replacing the Vault Hunters as playable characters, three of whom we've been introduced to in previous games and DLC packs. The game will take place on the low-gravity moon of Elpis, where Jack has been hunting an ancient alien artifact. The game will only release of PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360. More on the game here.
As for the specifics at the event:
* Watch the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel demo in the Moon theatre (Booth #962)
* Take a photo with the Handsome Jack statue (Booth #962)
* Visit the NVIDIA booth and play the Borderlands 2 Headhunter 5: Son of Crawmerax DLC (Booth #924)
* Anyone who pre-orders the game gets a PAX exclusive Pre-Sequel t-shirt.
Evolve is a little more on the serious side. Like Left 4 Dead before it, Evolve will be a multiplayer experience, though there have been talks about a 'solo experience.' The game takes place on an alien world in a lush, outdoor environment, filled with dangerous wildlife that the player must hunt down and destroy to keep human outposts safe.
Instead of a simple shoot now ask questions later attitude, players will have to use visual clues like tracks to find their prey. At the same time, the monster they're hunting can also play the part of part of predator with another player at the controls. While the creature starts out small, it can grow larger and more ferocious by feeding on wildlife.
Classes humans can choose from include Assault, Medic, Support, and Trapper. As you might expect, Assault players are aggressive shooter types, Medics can provide health boosts to the team, Support can apply various power ups and shields, and take a guess at what Trappers do. All classes will need to work together in order to snag the beast.
Anyone looking to check it out will want to head to booth #948 and #962. Look for the giant Goliath statue. Pre-order the game, and you get a PAX exclusive Evolve beanie. How fashionable.
Finally, Firaxis Games will also be on site to announce their next triple A title at the DragonFly Theatre, Saturday, April 12, 11:30 AM. Be there, or be...somewhere else.
