It is official! The highly controversial game The Day Before will be shutting its servers down early next year, according to publisher Mytona.
Closing Down Shop
For those who do not know, The Day Before launched on December 7 and to say that it had a rocky start is a gross understatement. The game was riddled with bugs, so much so that the players who were able to get their hands on it left tons of negative reviews on Steam.
Then, developer Fntastic made an announcement that the game would no longer be actively supported by its team. This was done just several days after launch, which forced players to scramble for refunds because this was an outright scam.
Fast forward to today, publisher Mytona tweeted on the game's official X/Twitter account that the game's servers are scheduled to shut down on January 22, 2024. If this is going to push through on the said date, the game will only have lasted 45 days from launch to shutdown.
Mytona stated that the main reason why the game servers will be turned off early next year is that the developer, Fntastic, has officially ceased its operations. This is to say that there is no longer any point in maintaining the servers if The Day Before is not going to be actively developed anyway.

What Happens Now?
In the same tweet, Mytona announced that it is working with Steam to "proactively refund" players who have not requested it yet. Hopefully, those who have been scammed by Fntastic get their hard-earned money back.
How about those who have recently purchased the overpriced Steam Keys for this embattled title? Unfortunately, they cannot get their money back because Steam's policies state that any title that was bought outside of the platform is not eligible for a refund.
Troubled Development
The development company Fntastic is owned by brothers Eduard and Aisen Gototsev. When The Day Before fiasco began, a lot of developers who had worked on the game came out to speak about their horrible experiences with the owners of the controversial company.
According to them, the brothers would make decisions in the spur of the moment, leading to numerous changes that were not even implemented in the final product. Not only that but The Day Before was originally envisioned as a single-player survival title. However, at some point, the Gototsev brothers wanted to change the game into an MMO instead.
As to how absurd this abrupt decision-making is, the developers said that the brothers wanted to change a lot of things during the game's development. One of the most notable is the user interface which, according to the disgruntled devs, was tweaked five times because Eduard and Aisen just played GTA V. This implies that the brothers had required them to make The Day Before look similar to Rockstar Games' popular open-world title.
If what these developers said is true, then it is no wonder that The Day Before launched the way it did - riddled with bugs and far from what was initially promised.
