Following the successful rework to Roadhog, it seems that the Overwatch 2 dev team is not stopping there as they are considering making significant changes to the game's other heroes, namely Wrecking Ball and Cassidy, which may be implemented sometime in 2024.
Wrecking Ball Rework?
One of the biggest changes in Overwatch 2 compared to its predecessor is that the game uses a 5v5 format, where players can only choose one tank per team. This makes the choice of tank hero so much more important. While the developers have made substantial changes over time, like Roadhog's recent rework, there are some heroes that need some love. Luckily, the dev team has recognized this and is likely to make changes to certain heroes next year.
In a recent live stream, Alec Dawson, Lead Hero Designer for Overwatch 2, said that the developers have a shortlist of heroes that require significant changes. One hero who is near the top of that list is Wrecking Ball.
Wrecking Ball, for the uninitiated, is one of the most unique heroes in the game. Unlike other tanks that possess abilities that lead them to be up close and personal with the enemy, Wrecking Ball can keep opponents at bay by attaching itself to a post with a grappling hook and spinning around for a short period. Those who are hit by the attack are knocked back a considerable distance.
While players were able to get a good handle on Wrecking Ball's abilities, Dawson has stated that there might be something that he and his team can do to improve upon what the hero is capable of. "But how can we make it so he fits a little bit better in 5v5? How can we make it so that players feel that... they're just a little bit happier having Wrecking Ball on their team," Dawson said.
With the developers having made considerable changes to tank heroes recently, it is possible that Wrecking Ball is the next to get some much-needed attention.

Don't Forget About Cassidy
Cassidy, formerly known as Jesse McCree, is one of the original heroes of the game. This sharpshooting cowboy has received quite a number of changes since launch. Interestingly, the developers still think that Cassidy needs some tweaks, but as to what these changes are, further details have not been disclosed yet.
Issues on PS5
The possible rework of Wrecking Ball and Cassidy might happen sometime next year. In the meantime, the developers should turn their attention to fixing the game's issues, particularly on the PlayStation 5.
Some players have experienced serious frame drops on PS5 ever since Season 8 launched on December 5. Redditor @TheWorstOfTheWest posted a video showcasing Overwatch 2's "peak performance" on the said console. Another Redditor replied that it has already been more than 24 hours and the issue has not been fixed yet.
While the developers have already acknowledged the problem, it seems that there is no ETA on the fix yet. Those on the PS5 can only wait at this point until the hotfix is released.
Have you played Overwatch 2 recently? If so, how's your experience with Season 8 so far? Also, what can you say about Wrecking Ball and Cassidy possibly getting a rework next year?
