How to Install Mods Using Vortex

To enjoy any Baldur's Gate 3 mod, you need to install a mod manager. One of the easiest mod managers to use is Vortex. That's because this program has close integration with Nexus Mods, thus allowing you to install and enjoy the mods that you want without the heavy lifting.

After downloading and installing the mod manager, run the program and you will see the "Games" section on the left-hand side. Click on it and you will be presented with a list of games. Look for Baldur's Gate 3  and select "Manage" to grant you the ability to install mods for the game.

In some cases, the Vortex Mod Manager might put BG3 under the "Unmanaged" category. Don't worry! You just have to manually point the program towards the game's installation folder. If you don't know how to find it, right-click on the game's icon and select "Open File Location."

With that out of the way, you still need to complete one more step before you can enjoy your favorite mods. Head to Nexus Mods and download the "Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Fixer." Under the "Files" section, click "Mod Manager Download" and then "Slow Download" to get the mod's zip file. You can select "Fast Download" if you have a premium subscription.

Once the zip file has been downloaded, go back to Vortex, and in the upper-right-hand corner, you will see the "Install" button. Click that to prompt the manager to initiate the installation process.

After that, go to the "Mods" section on the left-hand side of the interface. Here you can see all of the mods that you have installed, as well as their current status. Make sure that the Mod Fixer is enabled so that all of the other custom mods you install will work with the full-release version of Baldur's Gate 3.

How to Install Mods Manually

Now, if you're a bit more tech-savvy, you can install mods manually by unpacking the mod's zip file and extracting any ".pak" files you can find. Next, you want to copy those files onto Baldur's Gate 3's "Mods" folder.

The folder can be found in C:/Users/YourUsername/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/Mods. This is hidden by default, so make sure that you have "Hidden Items" unticked from the File Explorer.

Take note that you have to run the game first before the aforementioned folder appears on that specific section of your computer.

After transferring all of the PAK files to the folder, you still have to use a mod manager to enable them. Instead of Vortex, however, you'll be using the Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Manager by LaughingLeader this time.

Now that you know how to install custom mods in Baldur's Gate 3, are you going to download some anytime soon?
