Star Wars Darth Maul Game Was In Development, But Was Axed During Disney's Lucasfilm Purchase [VIDEO]

The Darth Maul Game Of Your Dreams Could Have Happened, But It Met Its Untimely Doom

We know that former Uncharted writer Amy Hennig is now moving forward with a new EA Star Wars game, but I really wish that EA would've picked up the Darth Maul game that was apparently scrapped.

Revealed today on Game Informer, this game looks like it was more or less a Force Unleashed-like experience, but with the much more brutal protagonist of Darth Maul. Unlike most Star Wars video game adaptations, this one looked like it would soundly receive an "M" rating, with beheadings included in the lightsaber combat of the brief gameplay revealed.

Developer Red Fly was in charge of the title, but right before the Disney/Lucasarts merger the game was axed. The game was apparently set to be a stealthy Darth Maul adventure at first, but then after a meeting with George Lucas and Lucasarts, they decided to turn it more into a redemption tale like Force Unleashed, where Maul went toe-to-toe with Darth Krayt and his Sith army.

It was apparently a long and terrible process for the studio, with lots of Lucas folks trying to get their hands in the game and sculpt it the way that they wanted it, rather than Red Fly's initial vision. Unfortunately the full article is only available to Game Informer subscribers at the moment, but check out their concept art post and the video of the gameplay below.
