Death Row Games
In a recent revelation reported by AfroTech, the father-son team is stepping into uncharted territory by launching Death Row Games, a studio dedicated to creating a home for minority creators within the gaming ecosystem.
Cordell Broadus, Snoop Dogg's son, emphasized their vision for the studio, stating, "We've been around games for the last five to six years. And Snoop, he's done mobile games. A few of them in the past five to six years in apps and stuff like that. So we've always had the mindset of building it on our own."
This move reflects their commitment to fostering a space for diverse storytellers, ensuring that the gaming landscape is more inclusive and representative of different cultures.
Unreal Editor, Fortnite
The studio's focus on leveraging the Unreal Editor, the same engine behind Fortnite, marks a strategic approach to game development. Death Row Games aims to facilitate the creation and publication of games by minority content creators.
Broadus explained, "We felt like let's really put resources into building Death Row Games and making a home for diverse creators in the gaming ecosystem and be a part of the narrative, the storytelling of what the next game should be looking like."
This emphasis on diversity and representation is an essential step toward broadening the narratives and themes in gaming.
In an interview, Broadus expressed the importance of their collaboration and its impact on their work dynamics. "I think it's dope for a father and a son to be working together for one, and for two he's 51 years old. So he may be out of touch with some of these things. And I'm always there to keep him up to speed and translate information to him in a tone that he can understand."
