Sony Online Entertainment's got some sort of big announcement coming later today, codenamed (or maybe just named) H1Z1.
I'm sure it's no coincidence that that sounds strikingly similar to the H1N1 swine flu virus that took the world by storm a few years ago, but the inclusion of the Z sure makes this seem like a zombie game is on the way from Sony.
SOE President John Smedley has offered up a little bit of info on the game, like when when can expect an announcement and possibly how quickly we'll be able to get our mitts on the new game.
watch https://t.co/OfEekcv325 tmw between 5-6pm PST if you are interested in the new game we haven't announced. there is gameplay footage

@Jedi_Skote you can play it yourself soon. and by play I mean play fully. — John Smedley (@j_smedley) April 8, 2014
So it sounds like we'll want to tune to that link around 5:00 to 6:00PM PST (around 8:00 or 9:00 EST) tonight, so luckily the wait won't be too long. And that second tweet makes it sound like the game might be releasing in short order.
Also, Smedley tweeted three other things over the course of the last month-plus that would have seemed cryptic at the time, but suddenly make more sense in context.
I love playtests with 3 spawnpoints. it works out really well in a pvp game. yeah. really well.

the sound a body makes when it hits the front bumper and then flys up in the air to land on your hood should be satisfying I think — John Smedley (@j_smedley) March 11, 2014
Seriously a wolf kills me?
— John Smedley (@j_smedley) February 27, 2014
Rolling the jeep doesn't kill me. Hitting the deer..which was a meal for a wolf.. Pisses the wolf off. Makes sense. — John Smedley (@j_smedley) February 27, 2014
So we've got cars, PVP, and killer wolves in this title, presumably. Unless Smedley was actually eaten alive by a wolf and came back from the dead to tweet about it. Got it.
What do you think of this potential new zombie MMO from Sony? I for one am quite excited, and GameNGuide will keep you up to date with the latest H1Z1 happenings after the announcement tonight.
