Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Wii U Nintendo Direct Round Up: Yoshi Returns, Online Details, Fighters, Game Modes and More! [VIDEO]

Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct Round Up: Yoshi Returns, Online Details, Fighters, Assist Trophies, Game Modes and More!

We know so much about the 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. after today's Nintendo Direct. We know when the games will be coming out (roughly). We know about the 3DS-exclusive game mode "Smash Run," which sounds like some serious "smash fun" (I'll show myself out). And we got to hear all about the inclusion of Charizard and Greninja as fighters, as well as the Pokémon contained in the Pokéball and all-new Master Ball items.

But what about the rest? Well, here goes nothing, as I attempt to summarize most of the rest of the massive information from the Direct:

- Yoshi is back as a playable character, and he's standing upright now!

- The confirmed roster, thus far, is: Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Zelda, Sheik, Marth, Pit, Zero Suit Samus, Pikmin and Olimar, Diddy Kong, King DeDeDe, Lucario, ToonLink (from Wind Waker and the DS titles), Sonic, Villager (from Animal Crossing), Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer (male and female forms), Rosalina and Luma (from Super Mario Galaxy), Charizard, Greninja and Little Mac (from Punch Out!).

- A note about that roster: Fighters no longer have multiple forms. So Samus won't turn into Zero Suit Samus, you need to pick one or the other. But they buffed up Zero Suit Samus with jet boots and some great kick attacks.

- There will be custom move sets now, but only in offline. They showed Mario throwing a gigantic fireball. But wait, if there's offline, that must mean that...

- Yes, there is online. You will be able to play online with friends or strangers in matchmaking. Online will be present in both the 3DS and Wii U versions.

- There is a new system they have for letting people either play for fun online or play to compete. They're aptly titled the "For Fun" mode and the "For Glory" mode. "For Fun" will have random stages, all items present, smash battles only and the results will not be recorded. "For Glory" will have Final Destination stages only, no items, possible 1-on-1 matches, and results will be recorded. Oh, and about those Final Destination "stages"...

- Every stage has its own Final Destination mode now, so you'll be treated to nicer backgrounds in addition to the bare bones challenging stage.

- There will be a "code of conduct" online to keep things under control, including player feedback. But people will be punished if they are found to be reporting on people "baselessly."

- Lastly for online, you will have what's called your "Global Smash Power," a numeral where the higher it is, the better you are. The bigger your number, the stronger you are. It shows how many people you've outscored, and it takes single player into account as well. So a score of 300,000 means you're better than 300,000 players. Matchmaking will be based off of skill levels.

- Many (or maybe all?) of the Assist Trophies were revealed, and they are as follows: Andross, Devil, Knuckle Joe, Saki Amamiya, Lyn, Nintendog, Waluigi, Dr. Wright, Skull Kid, Mother Brain, Minda, Ashley, Dark Samus, Chain Chomp, Isabelle, Elec Man and Color TV-Game 15.

- They also revealed many (or again, maybe all) of the items as well, which are as follows: Beam sword, Smart bomb, Motion sensor bomb, POW block, Beetle, Fire bar, Back shield, Bombchu, Fairy bottle, Ore club, X bomb, Hocotate bomb, Rocket belt and Steel diver.

- Lastly, and this was an exciting thing near the beginning of the presentation, but some levels will now have cooperative bosses for all players to fight while also fighting each other. The demoed it using Yellow Devil on Mega Man's Dr. Wily's Castle stage. The Yellow Devil attacks fighters, and players must hit its eye. The player who kills the Yellow Devil gets to use it as a weapon, when it basically explodes and takes out everyone around it but the player who delivered the death blow. They also (I thought, at least) teased a Pokémon boss at some point.

Whew, so that's all a mouthful. But there was a ton of great announcements during this Nintendo Direct. What feature has you most excited? Let us know in the comments, and check out the full Nintendo Direct video below! (It starts at about the 38-minute mark for some reason.)
