'Breaking Bad' Creator Pitches Idea of a 'GTA'-Style Video Game

Creator teases a GTA-inspired open-world 'Breaking Bad' game.

In a recent podcast, 'Breaking Bad' creator Vince Gilligan confessed to being involved in numerous attempts to make video games based on the most acclaimed TV series. What is more exciting for 'Breaking Bad' fans out there is that the creator and director also teased a Grand Theft Auto-like video game to be in the works soon.

Unlike other movie franchises that brought their brands to various platforms after a compelling viewership, 'Breaking Bad' did not seem to immediately test the waters in bringing the television show to game developers. The closest thing that they had to an adaptation is their latest Netflix movie sequel.

Creator Teases a GTA-Inspired Open-World 'Breaking Bad' Game

A report from We Got This Covered, shares that Gilligan has been teasing fans sometime now for a 'Breaking Bad' game adaptation. The brilliant movie writer even expressed that he has dreams of helping conceptualize a GTA-style open-world game that is set in the locations of the 'Breaking Bad' universe. The movie creator, who was open in saying that he is not a hardcore gamer, also shared that there have been in the works of creating a PlayStation VR game and several mobile games, but they never made it to any official release.

We know that these conceptualizations from Gilligan are actually big news to follow in the coming days, weeks, and months. Many of us surely have not yet recovered from the high that the award-winning TV series has injected us. Some may be a little bit disappointed with how messed up things went in its final episodes, doping us with some real TV show what-ifs blues. A GTA-inspired game may be set in Albuquerque and can definitely hype up the 'Breaking Bad' fanbase once again. Imagine Jesse Pinkman and Walter White hitting up the road ala CJ in this incredible idea of a video game.

Creating Video Games Is Difficult and Expensive, Says Creator

Vince Gilligan had many more anecdotes about the supposed 'Breaking Bad' game that he shared on the 'Into the Gilliverse' podcast. From a report from Comicbook, Gilligan continued by claiming that despite writing three or four different video games, none of them were ever released. He said that while creating video games is difficult and expensive, the Breaking Bad team also takes brand protection very seriously. Gilligan warned fans not to hang their breath for a Breaking Bad video game, stressing that they don't want to create something similar to the infamous ET Atari game.

We are all fans here wishing those huge game developers like Rockstar are somewhere hearing about this concept from Vince Gilligan. Someone should really be starting to take notes as this concept of a video game has the potential to be as popular as any editions of the Grand Theft Auto series. I am very sure that 'Breaking Bad' fans out there would not be contented with 'El Camino' being the series' final roadblock.
