Ready for this week's #RePlay feature? We sure are!
Just a brief recap for those who are encountering #RePlay for the first time: it is a weekly series we do here on GameNGuide that features titles from older video game consoles such as the first PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and more. More importantly, it answers the question of whether or not the game can still be played by those who are interested in it today.
After featuring a PlayStation game last week, today's feature shines a spotlight on a Nintendo 64 game this time around. It's one of the many spinoff Pokemon games as well. Can you guess what it is?
It is none other than Pokemon Snap!
#RePlay Feature: Pokemon Snap
Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, Pokemon Snap was first released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64. It was actually supposed to be a Nintendo 64DD game, but the delays in the console caused it to be moved to Nintendo 64 instead.
The game was re-released in 2007 for Wii's Virtual Console and in 2016 for Wii U's Virtual Console.
The name of the game may have already given it away, but Pokemon Snap is a photography game. pecifically, your objective as you control the character of Todd Snap is to take pictures of Pokemon using your camera. The narrative of the game features Professor Oak, who summons Todd Snap because he is in need of quality photos to use for his scientific findings.
You can also use items to have better shots and Professor Oak will eventually provide you with camera accessories that will help you take your photos. At the end of each round, the quality of your photos are judged.
New Pokemon Snap
A sequel for the game, New Pokemon Snap, was released in 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.
Like its predecesoor, the sequel is a photography game and requires the player to snap photos of Pokemon found in the Lental region. However, Professor Mirror replaces Professor Oak as the one who guides the player throughout the game.

Is It Still Possible to #RePlay the Original Pokemon Snap Today?
The answer to that is yes, very much so. And no, you don't need to have the virtual consoles of Wii and Wii U or even a working Nintendo 64 console to play the game in this day and age. Why?
It's because Pokemon Snap is available on Nintendo Switch Online. According to an article by The Verge, the game has been available since June 24, 2022. However, you will need to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack in order to play the game.
