Nintendo Switch Online App Finally Allows Sending Friend Requests — Works on Devices Running iOS 14

Nintendo Switch users can now send friend requests without using Switch devices on hand. The recent Nintendo Switch Online app update includes expanding your friends' list directly from the mobile app.

The latest update on the Nintendo Switch Online app allows users to add 'friends' using their phones.

Aside from sending friends requests, the new update also enables users to find friends online and use the voice chat features while playing games.

How To Send Friend Requests Using Nintendo's Friend Code

An article from iTECHPOST shares how to send friend requests using this new feature. First, you should copy your friend code as a URL. This is a new feature that users can try. Next, the user can save the copied friend code as a QR code that users can easily share with other users. With these new ways of finding and adding friends, looking for friends to play with has never been easier.

The Verge also reports that the Nintendo Switch's new code system for multiplayer matchmaking is seen as a "step back" from the Nintendo Network ID system used on the Wii U. With this new update, it looks like Nintendo is experimenting with new ways users can connect with each other online.

For now, accepting friend requests can still only be done using a Switch console. The latest update does not enable users to accept friend invites using the Nintendo Switch Online app.

Before the update, Nintendo Switch users could only add each other as 'friends' while using the Nintendo Switch handy. When 'friends' are online, every user can see when their friends are connected to the Internet by which they can invite each other to play together.

As My Nintendo News reports, the only unfavorable aspect of this update is that users can only accept friend requests on their Nintendo Switch system. Hopefully, the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app will one day include accepting or rejecting friend invites.

Latest Nintendo Switch Online App Update Now Requires At Least iOS 14

Users should also take note that the latest update has the option to send Nintendo's friend codes. The app also needs iOS versions 14 or onwards to function.

The previous version of the app only required iOS versions 12 onwards. According to recent reports, Nintendo had previously acknowledged that some older iPhone and iPad models would no longer be supported after an update to the Nintendo Switch Online application. After today's update, your device must be running iOS 14 to use the Nintendo Switch Online app. iOS 16 is expected to be available by September 2022.

You can download and install the Nintendo Switch Online app now and add your friends to play awesome games together! The Nintendo Switch Online app is available for free in the iOS app store.
