New Rumor Says God Of War Ragnarok Could've Released Alongside Starfield

God Of War Ragnarok And Starfield Could've Launched At The Same Time, Says New Rumor

If this new rumor about God Of War Ragnarok is true, then PlayStation and Xbox would've had a battle for the ages during the 2022 holiday season.

Renowned game journalist Jason Schreier of bloomberg is once again sharing a bombshell of a rumor. As reported by Push Square, Schreier claimed that the original God Of War Ragnarok release date was November 11th 2022, before it was eventually pushed earlier to November 9th of this year. Now, for the unaware, Bethesda's Starfield was originally slated for the same date before getting delayed to early next year.

If Schreier's claim is true, then PlayStation and Xbox would've battled for the year's best console exclusive at the tail end of the year. In a ResetEra post, the Bloomberg correspondent said that the original plan for God Of War Ragnarok's release date was connected to the "postponed" June 30th reveal. While Schreier "wasn't 100% sure" why the studio moved the release date, he did claim it was more about logistics than anything else to do with the Bethesda RPG.

Perhaps the studio had trouble with the shipping times of the physical copies of the game for both PS4 and PS5, but we digress. Either way, there seems to be no indication that the God Of War Ragnarok release date is not going to be moved - and that it will most definitely launch on November 9th.

As for Starfield, perhaps the game's scope really meant it won't be polished enough to make its original launch date. Bethesda was all in on the game's size and scope, and you should know that making an open-world (in this case, open-galaxy) triple-A RPG takes an insane amount of time. With the game's delay, Xbox was basically robbed of a big exclusive release for the holidays, leaving the door wide open for PlayStation.

But just imagine if God Of War Ragnarok and Starfield DID release on the same day. The console wars would've reached a fever pitch, with fanboys on each corner claiming that their chosen game and platform are superior. But Bethesda clearly needed more time to work on their game, and Santa Monica fared a lot better in that aspect. So it's all systems go for Kratos' next adventure in the Norse mythological realm.

More God Of War Ragnarok News

Now, enough about all those rumors and what ifs. Onto more news about Ragnarok, pre-orders for the game are now live and you can get your copies secured now, months before the game launches.

As per GamesRadar, the pre-orders for both Standard and Special Editions of Ragnarok are now live at the PlayStation Store. The huge Collector's Edition for PS4 and PS5 can now be had for $199.99 on Sony's storefront, with the promise that the package WILL come on the day of the launch without having to wait.

Here's what you'll get with the Collector's Edition package (alongside the slightly cheaper Jotnar Edition), as unboxed by Thor voice actor Ryan Hurst and Art Director Rafael Rissetti:

The Standard edition of the game for the PS5 will cost $69.99 at the PlayStation Store, and the PS4 version (with a $10 upgrade to PS5) at $59.99. Yes, it's no free upgrade, but it's more or less a way to match how much PS5 players spend on the game.
