Developed by Angel Matrix and published by Annapurna Interactive, Neon White is described by its Steam page as a single-player speedrunning FPS. We will get to the speedrunning and shooter aspects of the game later. For now, let's talk about the story.

According to the game's official website, you control a character named Neon White, who is described as "an assassin handpicked from Hell to compete with other demon slayers for a chance to live permanently in Heaven."

As you may have already guessed, in order to earn the chance to live permanently in Heaven, demon slayers must, as their name suggests, hunt down and kill demons. Whoever has the most kills wins the chance to live in Heaven.

Sounds pretty straightforward, right? Well, there is one thing you need to keep in mind as you play. As an article by The Verge notes, Neon White has lost his memory.

Speedrunning, Parkour, and FPS in One?

Neon White is all about speed. In fact, the artice by The Verge says that the game features "small platforming levels where the goal is to kill every single demon as quickly as possible" that are very quick. And by very quick, we mean the stages last only less than a minute long.

Considering how fast paced the game is, it might not surprise you find out that it has a parkour element in it. Each level is actually a vertical parkour playground where you will have to collect cards along the way that represent weapons such as shotguns and the like.

However, The Verge notes that Neon White is not exactly a shooter game. At least, not the kind of shooter game that you are probably used to. The weapons you acquire are actually a means to get through the level faster more than anything. For example, some weapons have the ability that lets you dash through the air.
