The Xbox Series X is an impressive piece of gaming tech. To a lot of you, that's not even a secret. But for all its capabilities, the Series X still has a few quirks that might make you feel like asking, "why in the world would Microsoft do that?"
This then brings us to the Series X's controller, which has one weird design choice: the Share button is located between the View and Menu buttons. If you've been playing on Microsoft's console for a while, you should know that it is extremely easy to trip this button when you're in the heat of the action. Accidentally do it more times than you want, and it gets annoying.
Well, worry no more. Here's a guide on how to remap the Share button on your Xbox Series X controller, so you won't have to worry about unknowingly screencapping the time when somebody headshotted you in Halo Infinite.
Remapping The Button
Here's what you have to do, courtesy of TechRadar:
-
Go to the My Games & Apps section of your console.
-
From there, go to the Xbox Accessories app. For PC users who have the Series X controller on their system you can download the app from the Microsoft Store and run it.
-
Load up the app and pick the controller you want to remap.
-
Pick a control scheme (profile), then click the pencil icon on the right-hand side to edit said profile.
-
Choose whatever button or action you want to map the Share button to, and you're done! You can even change the functionality of the button itself too, like making it require a double-tap to capture a screenshot, and hold to record video.
And that's it! That's really all you need to do to ensure you'll never accidentally take a screenshot again in the heat of battle. This is all testament to Microsoft's commitment to making your console your own, so as you will have full control over your gaming experience. Go ahead and try it out! Also remember that this remapping procedure also works with the Series S' controller.

Creative Uses Of Remapping The Share Button
Here's one thing that can instantly change the way you experience your Series X console.
A Reddit user by the handle A-damn1988 posted a video on the Series X subreddit, showing a trick they discovered via remapping the Share button. By mapping the button to two pinned games (likely his favorites), the user was able to quickly switch between both games in the blink of an eye:
As you can see there, he switched from Scarlet Nexus to Dying Light 2 in perhaps a single second just by pressing the Share button twice. Now, there's an action where you can hold the button, effectively meaning you can quick-switch between three games with just a single button.
Couple this with the Xbox Series X's Quick Resume, which allows you to go back to a game at the exact same moment you left it off and continue like nothing happened. Get a maximum of three of your favorite games, map them to the Share button actions, then quickly switch to either of the games whenever you want. It's obviously way faster than looking them up in the menu.
