Apparently, Fans Are Petitioning That Hideo Kojima's Xbox Game Be Canceled

Some 'Fans' Want Hideo Kojima's Xbox Game To Bite The Dust

When Hideo Kojima's Xbox deal was finally revealed, a lot of people (perhaps mostly Xbox fans) were understandably elated. But of course, there's the opposite side of the fence full of people who wants to see it all crashing down.

Japanese video game designer, writer, director and producer Hideo Kojima speaks on stage to present his new video game "Death Stranding" during the Tokyo Game Show in Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture on September 12, 2019

As reported by DualShockers, these long-time fans of the legendary game developer have drummed up support for a petition, calling for the cancelation of his upcoming Xbox game. They said that within a mere 21 hours of Microsoft and Kojima's announcement, a petition calling for the project's cancelation already earned over 1,500 signatures. It has roughly 1,800 now at the time of this writing.

According to the petition itself on Change.org, here's what these detractors had to say about the deal:

Kojima is betraying his loyal fans. He has been blinded by greed. We must help him come back to the winning side. PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION EVERYWHERE.

The petitioners even went as far as to say this, which is a clear stab at Microsoft and Xbox:

Not everyone has good enough internet to stream games. Not everyone has enough money to buy a new console or build a new PC. Please Kojima, don't leave us.

However, a quick look at the petition's "Reasons For Signing" area indicates that this petition isn't being accepted well. One user commented on how they only signed just to point out how "stupid" the petition is, and one commenter said that the petition itself is just "absurd."

But there is one commenter who pointed out that the Hideo Kojima-Xbox partnership isn't weird at all, considering how he's already released a lot of his games for Microsoft's consoles in the past. It's not like his games were only ever PlayStation exclusives - some titles were - but not all of them.

Either way, Kojima's partnership with Microsoft is now etched in stone and no one can stop it.

Hideo Kojima Will Still Work With PlayStation, Mind You

Perhaps one thing that the petitioners forgot is the fact that Kojima Productions themselves have confirmed: they will still be working with Sony and PlayStation despite the big boss' Xbox deal. Bar none. Full stop. Here's their tweet:

This then brings us to another fact that Kojima Productions is, and will always be, an independently operating studio - something they also made clear. The head honcho himself has quashed rumors saying that Sony may have bought Kojima Productions, after Death Stranding was apparently added to the first-party games banner for PlayStation.

But even if Kojima's most recent game Death Stranding was first released as a PS4 exclusive (with Director's Cut being a PS5 exclusive), the game eventually still made it to PC (Microsoft's domain, and by extension Xbox's). Also, Metal Gear Solid 5 came out for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, so did a veritable lineup of other Metal Gear games (MGS 2: Substance, MGS HD Collection, MG Rising Revengance, and MG Survive).

To say that Kojima is "blinded by greed" by joining forces with Xbox just because of his deal with Microsoft is completely and utterly false - not to mention a very fanatical thing to say.
