As reported by Push Square, the massively popular blocky sandbox title just got new DLC inspired by the hit Pixar film Lightyear, which only recently released in theaters. There will be a total of five missions that will explore Buzz Lightyear's origin story (the man, not the action figure from the Toy Story movies), which will also take Minecraft players to new environments.

Here is the trailer for the DLC, uploaded on the official Minecraft YouTube channel:

As you can see there, the Minecraft Lightyear DLC is essentially a blocky version of the film itself. But it will also let players take control of other characters aside from Buzz. Altogether, the DLC aims to give players (and Buzz) "the space adventure of a lifetime." But aside from that, the DLC also gives players a free Lightyear film-themed Character Creator item that can be accessed via the Dressing Room in-game.

If you want to get the Minecraft Lightyear DLC, it costs 1,340 minecoins as of the moment or roughly $13 to get (via PCGamesN). In the missions, you will be tasked with taking on hordes of enemies and boss fights using the iconic character's diverse collection of gear and weapons. Overall, the goal is to save the galaxy from the evil schemes of Emperor Zurg - you know, standard Buzz Lightyear fare.

This new Minecraft DLC comes as the result of a partnership between Disney and developer Mojang. It also comes after the recent release of The Wild expansion, which was one of the most recent big updates to the game. For now, this has to be enough to tide a lot of gamers over in the wait for Minecraft Legends.

The Lightyear-inspired DLC is now available for all platforms and can be purchased via the Minecraft marketplace.

Why The Lightyear-Inspired Minecraft DLC?

In the simplest terms, one can safely say that the Lightyear film turned out pretty well. Both critic and audience reviews of the film on Rotten Tomatoes are quire positive, with a 77% Tomatometer and a stellar 88% Audience Score.

Critics are praising Lightyear for a story that goes conventional instead of going over the top. The film was also lauded for its great combination of excellent visuals, humor, and a progressive relationship that's not always portrayed the right way in popular media - more especially on the big screen, writes IGN. But even if the movie itself is a fun experience for both adults and kids alike, they say that it's not up to the usual standards Pixar has had over the years.

Barely a few days after its premiere, the film has already grossed $23 million on opening night including the $5.2 million gross from previews (via Deadline). That's an excellent early few days, all things considered.
