Welcome to this week's ProFiles feature!
If you are encountering ProFiles for the first time, it is actually a weekly series we do here at GameNGuide that features different eSports players, streamers, and evening gaming YouTubers every week.
We all cannot deny that the gaming industry is pretty much a male-dominated one, but that does not mean female players, streamers, and YouTubers are not steadily making a name for themselves. In fact, we are going to shine the spotlight on one of them for today's feature,
Without further ado, let us tell you more about Twitch streamer Rumay "Hafu" Wang!
ProFiles: Twitch Streamer Hafu
Like many gamers out there, Rumay Wang got into gaming pretty early. In fact, an article by NBC says that when she was introduced to World of Warcraft when she was still in high school, she immediately got into it. She even missed her high school graduation because she just could not stop playing.
By the time she got to college, her love for gaming was so strong that she eventually dropped out in her third year to go into streaming full time.
Needless to say, Hafu has found a lot of success in gaming, even back in high school. Even at a young age, she was already at the top of the leaderboards in various World of Warcraft tournaments around the world.
"From World of Warcraft, Diablo III Hearthstone, League of Legends, DOTA II, and more, it seems Rumay can practically win at will at nearly any game," the Shorty Awards says of Hafu on its website. Despite the wide range of games she has played, Hafu has become known for being a professional Bloodline Champions, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft player.
Speaking of Hearthstone, she peaked at rank #2 and finished at rank #7 in season three.
Her YouTube channel's About page says that she is one of the top About Us players in the world as of writing. It also notes that she is "the #1 Teamfight Tactics (TFT) player in the public beta."
It is Hard to be a Female in a Male-Dominated Industry
Stories of how hard females have it in any male-dominated industry have sadly been uncommon and gaming is no exception. In fact, NBC's article says that Hafu herself has become a victim of trolling and harassment online.
NBC notes that when she was just 17 years old, Hafu experienced harassment from a group of gamers who gave themselves a name that alludes to sexually harassing her.
"She warns other young female aspiring gamers that haters are part of the job and advises would-be streamers to have honest conversations with themselves before risking it all," says NBC.
