Despite the official Assassin's Creed: Unity announcement, we still know very little about the game save for what we can discern from the trailer, and what might happen according to the pages of history.
Late last week, YouTuber WatchDogs XWK uploaded a video of an alleged screenshot from Unity. How he got a hold of it is unknown, but based on the video's take down after a copyright claim from Ubisoft, it could be legit. While the video is gone, the picture remains thanks to Reddit, an AC Facebook fan page, and of course, NEOgaf.
Seen above, the shot definitely rings familiar of Unity's French Revolution setting, with french signs, and tattered pamphlets covering the cobblestone streets of a darkened alley.
When asked on the legitimacy of the picture, Ubisoft Communication Manager Alberto Ziello told DualShockers, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation on unofficial material. We'll share official gameplay pictures of Assassin's Creed Unity over the coming months."
Interesting, but those aren't all the rumors.
Maybe you've heard of Jesse La Flair, maybe you haven't, but chances are that you've seen him. A parkour professional and stuntman, La Flair's popped up on American Ninja Warrior, and more recently, a Skechers commercial where he gets housed by Ronnie Lott. As a videogamer, chances are you probably don't care too much for the latter, but Ubisoft does.
As one of the big names of late thanks, Ubisoft the full nine when trying to ensure things look authentic. For example, they brought in the MMA fighter Andrew "The Squid" Montañez to design Connor's moves for Assassin's Creed III. And rumor has it that La Flair has some input with the next Creed title.
La Flair has his own YouTube channel with tutorial videos for teaching certain aspects of parkour, and an old comment from a video on wall running has caught the attention of gamers:
"What if I told you I may or may not have worked on the NEXT AC and they may or may not have added the ability to Horizontal Wall Run in the game.."
The comment was made three months ago, quite a long time before Unity was announced. In all fairness, perhaps La Flair was just teasing, but given his notoriety, he would've been one of the people for Ubisoft to seek out.
As for the actual addition of wall running, why not? With each new Creed game, the traditional Assassin means of getting around has only gotten more intricate. Whether or not wall running actually shows up, we'll have to wait and see.
