Insider Claims Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, Black Ops Stories Could 'Align' In The Future

A Potential Call Of Duty Modern Warfare/Black Ops Crossover Is Rumored To Be In The Works

An industry insider claims the stories for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare and Black Ops could become "aligned" in the future, based on what developers Treyarch Studios and Infinity Ward are planning.

The aforementioned insider, who goes by the handle TheGhostOfHope, posted the leaked information on Twitter recently. But as reported on by DualShockers, fans shouldn't expect it anytime soon with the impending October release of the rebooted COD Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 this year. Here is the original Twitter post:

But aside from making the claim, TheGhostOfHope didn't provide any further details. This could then lead some fans to say that the claim is not too legitimate, but there could be an indication that it is if you look at how Treyarch and Infinity Ward has conducted business before Sledgehammer Studios came into play.

As per the original DualShockers report, Treyarch Studios and Infinity Ward have alternated developing the yearly Call of Duty games before Sledgehammer came in and made it a three-developer cycle, starting with 2014's Advanced Warfare. One might assume that the two aforementioned studios have had years to work out a potential story crossover, though this is wild speculation at this point considering nothing is concrete yet.

However, one thing could be for certain as reported by ScreenRant: mixing the stories of the two Call Of Duty series might be a bad idea.

A post on the Modern Warfare subreddit (which has earned 5,163 upvotes at the time of this writing) explains why putting the timelines of COD Black Ops and COD Modern Warfare together is a "pretty stupid decision." You can read the post for yourself here, where you can see the fan's sheer disappointment:

Either way, Activision Blizzard's premiere first-person shooter will remain one of the most successful video game franchises of all time, as it surpassed 400 million lifetime sales last year (via VG247).

The Call Of Duty Modern Warfare And COD Black Ops Timelines So Far

It wasn't made clear whether the rumored joining of COD Modern Warfare and COD Black Ops timelines specifically target the original Modern Warfare trilogy (not the recently rebooted/remastered one). But to see how these two stories could overlap, you need to understand how the original timelines have gone.

Here's a video from The Leaderboard detailing the entire timeline of the original COD Modern Warfare series, which were among the highlights of the 7th generation of consoles (PS3, Xbox 360):

It's a pretty lengthy video, but the main gist is that everything started with the Cold War between the United States and the then-Soviet Union. As you should know, this basically links back to the latest game in the COD Black Ops series: Black Ops Cold War. But while that one is a story for another time, here's how the latter series ended:

It would be up to Treyarch and Infinity Ward to connect the convoluted stories of their individual series, which would be no easy task.
