Billed as a free-to-play hero shooter, Gundam Evolution is said to be focusing on allowing players to choose their favorite mechs - and not limit them to roles.
To do so, developer and publisher Bandai Namco is doing its absolute best to make every single mech in the game feel fun and unique, reports GameRant. This should be its rightful focus considering how the game seems to be short when it comes to its mobile suit rosters. As of this writing, the game has a 14-mech roster that features several of the most recognizable bots in the Gundam universe.
In the game's official website, the developers also put a four-star rating system indicating the difficulty of using each individual mobile suit. For instance, Gundam Exia seems to be among the hardest to master with a four star difficulty rating, alongside Gundam Barbatos and the ranged ZakuII.
The easiest ones, on the other hand, appear to be the most simple: the RX-75 GunTank is a 1-star difficulty rated mech, similar to the DOM Trooper. Bandai Namco promises that each mobile suit will come with "their own unique specs," all of which can be viewed if you clicked the Gundam's portrait on the website.
The developers, however, have an answer for what some fans might consider an underwhelming roster. Executive producer Kazuya Maruyama explains:
"As this is a team shooter, it is indeed important what role you play in the game, but instead of having set roles, we wanted players to use their favorite units whenever they wanted to. For this reason, we designed all units to be capable of dealing good damage to level the playing field."
At the end of the day, what this all means is that unlike other team-based hero-shooters (i.e. Overwatch), there won't be roles like Tanks, Support, and Damage Dealers, among others. Pick whatever mecha you like and cause some carnage. That's it.

More Details About Gundam Evolution
First revealed back in March with a trailer shown at that month's PlayStation State Of Play, Gundam Evolution stylizes itself as a first-person team-based shooter where players get to slug it out in 3 main game modes. There's Point Capture, Domination, and Destruction. Two teams of 6 players each will battle it out in these three modes:
Each mode is reminiscent of similar modes in other team-based hero shooters, so players will have some sort of familiarity going in.
Aside from that, the mobile suits also seem to have their own Ultimate abilities (again, just like Overwatch) which you likely build up by dealing damage to enemies or doing things that help your team win, like capturing the point and/or defending it.
As for Gundam Evolution's release date, Bandai Namco still has no concrete one set other than it is said to launch this year, writes SportsKeeda. It will come to last-gen and next-gen consoles (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S) as well as PC.
