God Of War PC Port Receives Official Support For AMD's FSR 2.0

God Of War On PC FINALLY Adds FSR 2.0 Support With Latest Update

The God Of War PC port has finally received official support for AMD SR 2.0, which promises far better performance gains while maintaining visual fidelity compared to version 1.0.

GameRant reports that the support came with Update 1.0.12. It allows for better overall image quality that's capable of even going toe-to-toe with NVIDIA's DLSS, but it's not hardware-locked. This means that if you have a relatively modern GPU (one you bought during the last four years), you can take advantage of FSR 2.0 whether you have a Team Green or Team Red card.

God Of War's PC port is also only the second game ever to feature FSR 2.0. It follows Arkane's Deathloop, with almost everything else having only FSR 1.0. The new version of AMD's upscaler will now allow players to run the iconic former PlayStation exclusive on a wider range of hardware - perhaps as a preparation for the impending release of God Of War Ragnarok.

FSR 2.0 allows for far superior image quality to FSR 1.0 because of the use of temporal upscaling technology. In layman's terms, the upscaler is never just limited to taking image data from one frame, but multiple frames at a time, writes Tom's Hardware.

Numerous YouTube channels have already taken an in-depth look at the quality improvements that FSR 2.0 have versus FSR 1.0 on God Of War. YouTuber Daniel Owen did a video comparison of the new upscaler running the game on 4K native and FSR 2.0 Quality Mode side by side. Notice how there's barely any noticeable difference in overall quality, but the frame rate was boosted from 60 FPS to an insane 75 FPS:

Here's another video from the channel MxBenchmarkPC, which compares FSR 2.0 in God Of War PC to DLSS 2.3 at a resolution of 1080p:

As you can see there, FSR 2.0 is more or less close to the quality of NVIDIA's DLSS 2.3 - all while delivering the same amount of performance.

Does FSR 2.0 Make God Of War On PC The Best AAA PlayStation Port Yet?

Back when it first released on PC in January, God Of War was already being hailed as the most technically polished out of all AAA former PlayStation exclusives to be ported to PC. It was one of the major selling points for the game, which likely helped it gain immense traction on Steam.

In February, the game recorded a peak concurrent player count of 73,529. This might not sound like much, but comparing to other former PS exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone, it's not even close. Zero Dawn only peaked at 56,557 concurrent players, while Days Gone had a relatively meager 27,450.

The game was also Steam's best-selling game for several weeks after its launch. As of February, the game has already shipped 1-2 million units on PC. And its current rating on Valve's digital storefront remains at Overwhelmingly Positive based on all 33,845 reviews at the time of this writing.
