It is Friday once more and you know what this means here in GameNGuide! It is time for the latest #ProFiles feaure!
If this is your first time encountering ProFiles here on the site, let us first tell you all about it. ProFiles is a weekly series we do here on GameNGuide to feature eSports players, YouTubers, streamers, and other gamers who have made a mark in the industry.
So far, we have focused largely on professional eSprots players so for today's feature, we are going to change things us a bit. Specifically, we are going to shine the spotlight on one of the best known virtual YouTubers, or VTubers, out there.
What is a VTuber?
Before we tell you all about today's feature, we are going to first define what a virtual YouTuber is, especially for those encountering the term for the first time.
"Instead of broadcasting themselves on-screen using webcams, Vtubers use elaborate, often customized digital avatars as stand-ins," The Washington Post says in its report.
"With the help of real-time motion capture software, these avatars mirror creators' movements and lip sync along with what they're saying, effectively functioning as digital marionettes," the report adds.
Polygon highlights in its own report that virtual avatars used to be very expensive, but it can be said that that is no longer the case. This is due to the fact that is now possible to create virtual avatars using just a laptop and a smartphone app.
VTubers usually make use of anime-style avatars.

ProFiles: VTuber Ironmouse
One of the most popular VTubers out there is known as Ironmouse. No one knows who exactly Ironmouse is. The Washington Post reports that is the alter ego of a Twitch streamer from Puerto Rico. Consistent with other VTubers, Ironmouse has a pink-haired anime girl for an avatar.
Accoring to The Washington Post's report, the real person behind Ironmouse actually suffers from a chronic illness known as the common variable immune deficiency (CVID) as well as a lung ailment. This has caused her to isolate herself at home and even be bedridden at times.
"I'm streaming because I want to hang out with people," she is quoted in the report to have said this during a steam.
As of The Washington Post article's press time, Ironmouse is actually the most followed VTuber on Twitch with over one million followers.
