Skyrim Is Apparently Getting Re-Released AGAIN

Skyrim Could Be Re-Released Yet Again On The Nintendo Switch

Another day, another apparent Skyrim re-release. Or at least that's what this rumor says.

Bethesda just can't seem to want to stop re-releasing their quintessential Elder Scrolls game, as it was allegedly once again spotted on the site of Taiwan's game rating board, writes DualShockers. It was also said to be listed for the Nintendo Switch, with the filing date indicating it was filed last Mat 15th.

Any game that gets listed on a rating board almost always indicates that an official announcement is close. That's because game developers often don't file their titles for a rating unless the release date is closing in. For this one, it looks to be the Skyrim Anniversary Edition that's purported to come to Nintendo's handheld, as spotted by the gaming site Switch Brazil.

The anniversary edition of the massively popular Elder Scrolls game came out last year as a - you guessed it - celebration of Skyrim's 10th anniversary. It came with the base game alongside all three major expansions: Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. Aside from that, the edition also included all Creation Club DLCs made up to its release, and more.

For it to be ported to the Nintendo Switch might seem excessive to some, but it's not at all a new thing for Bethesda as they've continued milking the game for so long due to its never-ending popularity. According to NintendoLife, the potential price for the bundle on the Nintendo Switch could be around $50, but the official pricing remains to be seen - if this port even exists at all.

Either way, this can be the second time that Skyrim will release for the Switch since the base game already launched on the platform back in 2017. It was one of the better-selling AAA ports on the Nintendo handheld, despite not having nearly as much content as the Anniversary Edition had.

For now, players must take this rumor with a grain of salt until either Nintendo or Bethesda make an official announcement.

Why Does Skyrim Keep Getting Re-Released?

To say that the reason for Skyrim's continued re-releases is just its popularity is a very simplistic explanation. But it kinda is the main reason, alongside the fact that games, no matter how you put it, are a lucrative business.

Bethesda knows the business like the back of their hand at this point. But aside from that, they're also very well-aware of the notoriety of Skyrim as a whole. It's a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and that's what basically kept the game alive for so long. No other Elder Scrolls game has had the same reputation as Skyrim, and Bethesda recognizes that it's where the money comes from.

In fact, the game has been re-released so many times it's gone from a mere video game into a meme. People were posting parodies of the game running on toasters, fridges, alongside other pretty dumb reasons as stated in this parody video:

Either way, one thing is for certain: as long as people keep buying Skyrim over and over and over again, Bethesda isn't going to stop re-releasing it. These were the actual words of Bethesda mainstay Todd Howard, as reported by Tom's Guide:

"Millions of people every month are playing that game. That's why we keep releasing it. If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it."

We're inclined to agree with Todd on this one.
