Old school fans of Microsoft's premiere first-person shooter franchise may have something amazing to look forward to with Halo Infinite.
GameRant reports that Joseph Staten, who directed the cinematics for the original Halo trilogy, has mentioned how he wants the classic Halo maps of old to make a current-gen comeback in a recent interview. You can watch the interview, conducted by Xbox YouTube channel Kinda Funny Games.
In the interview, he was asked by host Parris Lilly about the possibility of 343 Industries adding back some classic Halo content to Infinite, especially in between the new content updates for it. To which he responded that it would be "awesome to play" on old Halo maps again, while also calling the opportunity a "fun thing" and taking note of it in his notebook.
Considering Staten's standing within the Halo franchise, this could be an indication of a possibility. Because as the original GameRant report states, he didn't quickly shut down the idea: he responded in a casual, joking manner. However, it is also not a confirmation of the release of such content.
For now, Halo Infinite is deep within the bowels of Season 2 of the multiplayer, titled Lone Wolves. The season was already responsible for two new maps: Catalyst and Breaker, which were in the Arena and Big Team Battle modes.
Catalyst is a map which is set in a Forerunner structure that features a lot of ramps, hardlight bridges, and a ton of hallways for intense gunfights. According to Polygon, this map is what players would always expect out of a classic Halo map, since it was actually inspired by the Epitaph map from Halo 3.
As for Breaker, its inclusion for BTB means that it is far larger than Catalyst. It is set in a desert where two fortresses are located, which teams can use as their home bases. 343 Industries says they designed it to work really well with Capture the Flag. But aside from Breaker and Catalyst, Infinite still has to make do with the maps that came with its release.

What Are The Best Halo Maps Of All Time?
This question can be an intense point of discussion among long-time Halo fans, considering how the series has always had iconic maps with every iteration. But if you ask these fans which maps they think rank among the best, you'll see a pattern in their answers.
It is highly possible that they would include the Sidewinder map from Combat Evolved in that list, writes Collider. As one of the first-ever maps (and perhaps the most important) in the series, Sidewinder features a spacious terrain with teleporters that can serve your team or be the bane of it. This results to a chaotic but fun multiplayer experience, which punctuated and basically started the era of online gaming we all know today.
But perhaps the most iconic out of everything, according to Dexerto, is another Combat Evolved map: Blood Gulch. Dexerto writes that whenever you bring up Halo multiplayer, Blood Gulch is almost always the first map that people think about, and for good reason.
These two maps, among all the other great ones littering the Halo series, could very well make a comeback soon. But which one of the best Halo maps ever should be first on the list? Tell us what you think!
