This is evident in the game's recent patch, Patch 4.0, which fixes over 400 bugs. While this may not sound as much as one would expect, take note that the game's player count plummeted to a critical 832 concurrent players on April 13th, reports TechRadar. This could be the absolute lowest it's ever been since launch.

Patch 4.0 was announced on Twitter by DICE community manager Kevin Johnson. According to him, the new Battlefield 2042 update is scheduled to be released next week alongside the patch notes:

Aside from the over 400 individual bug fixes, Patch 4.0 also brings a few new QoL (quality of life) improvements to the game. There will also be some updates to the traits of operators Rao and Paik, grenade belt fixes for Sundance (which now ensures their Anti-Armor grenade targeting will affect enemies within the immediate vicinity and not those located miles away.

To cap things off, XP rewards for squad play and support actions will receive a re-balancing in order to "encourage" better teamwork among players. There are far more fixes coming in this new Battlefield 2042 update, so it would be best for you just to wait until the patch notes are officially released.

Johnson and the development team gave the community (if they're even still is one) their appreciation for the patience given to them while they worked on getting the update out. He also said that the bug fixes detailed here are only "scratching the surface" of the entire update.

The Sad, Sorry Fall Of Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 could be one of the last few decades' most tragic AAA game releases. And maybe that's not even an exaggeration, as the game's fall from grace is just... sad at this point.

Much of the game's failure can be due to EA's always-questionable practice of pushing out games before they're ready. And it is safe to say that the multi-billion-dollar company got what's coming to them, as their latest shooter quickly became one of Steam's worst-reviewed games ever. But that's not even half of the game's downfall.

Over time, the new Battlefield steadily lost players due to the litany of bugs plaguing its unfinished world. First, there were less than 100k, then less than half of that, then only a fraction of that at 1,921 on Steam as of Feb. 15 (via TechRadar). This was under the player counts of most other older Battlefield games.

Then, the player count dropped to less than 1,000 players on Steam for the first time, leading to the sorry 832-player number last Apr. 13. By this time, so many other people are now considering Battlefield 2042 dead.

With all of these, EA finally admitted to the game being a flop and said that it's not going to hurt their bottom line (via Eurogamer). All in all, they expect to lose around $100 million in revenue due to the game's failure-barely a drop in the bucket for such a big company.
