'Halo Infinite' Can Now Be Played In Third Person With This Mod

This 'Halo Infinite' Mod Allows You To Play In Third-Person

Ever wondered what Halo Infinite would be like if you can play it optionally in third-person, a-la Skyrim? Well, wonder no more.

A new Halo Infinite mod from modder and YouTuber Opulent Halo does this for you, but with a catch: you can only use it in the game's main campaign. According to Eurogamer, the most isn't exactly new as it is now "a few months old" by this point, but some players may have been coming back to it after that scene in the Halo TV show.

Here is a video of this new Halo Infinite mod in action:

As you can see in the video, the game doesn't seem to be hitching with the mod active, as is with first-person to third-person mods in other games like Cyberpunk 2077. The gameplay looks fluid, and you can see this in Chief's shooting, running, strafing, and jumping animations. It almost seems that 343 Industries baked in an option to go third-person but never pushed through with it.

How It Works

The mod can be downloaded on the website HaloCustoms if you want to try it out. However, installing it is not too straightforward, and there are a few other caveats to using it.

First off, you're going to need one extra thing, as per PCGamer: Infinite Runtime Tagviewer (available on GitHub). Then, you'll need to follow Opulent Halo's installation instructions to ensure that the mod will work without problems. Here's a tutorial video on his YouTube channel:

As for the caveats, you already know one of them: you can only use this during the main campaign. But there are others, such as you can never switch to first-person if you aim down your sight. All you can do while this mod is active is fire from the hip, so be sure that your aim is on point at all times. Fortunately, the crosshair remains on the screen to help with that.

Next up, you will have to restart the mod every single time you launch the game. It might seem like a hassle, but that's the deal with mods: you use them at your own risk. And lastly, this is only exclusive to PC (sorry, Xbox owners).

The Best Halo Infinite Mods To Try On PC

Of course, this third-person Halo Infinite mod is far from the only one you can try. GameRant listed the best ones you can play with right now, and they're all a doozy:

  • Halo 3 Loading Screen Replacer: Halo Infinite is one of the generation's best-reviewed games. But many players agree that its intro cinematic drags on for too long. With this mod, you will switch the default one with the one from Halo 3, which is perhaps one of the most memorable intro cinematics in gaming.
  • Upscaled 4K 60FPS First Campaign Cinematic: If you've played through Halo Infinite on a powerful system (i.e. a high-end PC or an Xbox Series console), you might notice that the first campaign cinematic looks a little low-res. This mod upscales that cinematic to 4K 60 FPS-a simple change, but one that helps make the game feel more "next-gen" all throughout.
  • Reach Realism ReShade: ReShade mods are one of the best ways to change any game's visual feel completely. With this one, you can have the same grittier look of Halo Infinite's predecessor, Halo Reach, if you feel like Infinite looks a little too colorful for you.
