PlayStation and Sony were among the biggest winners during the BAFTA 2022 Games Awards.
Two PS5 exclusives were the headliners of the Sony and PlayStation stable in this year's edition of the BAFTAs, reports GameSpot. That would be the sci-fi survival roguelike Returnal from Housemarque and Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Returnal was hailed as this year's Best Game, while Rift Apart won an award in two categories: Technical Achievement and Best Animation. But Returnal wasn't just the year's best game, as it also won for music, audio achievement, and best performer courtesy of Jane Perry as the game's protagonist Selene.
Perry won the award for her portrayal of an astronaut who got stuck in a seemingly endless time loop soon after crashing on an alien world. During her acceptance speech, she thanked the BAFTA's organizers for "recognizing the incredible talent" present in the games industry, as reported by the BBC.
If her name sounds familiar, Perry is also well-known for her work in games such as Cyberpunk 2077 (where she played the character Rogue), and the Hitman series (as Agent 47's handler, Diana Burnwood).
A Closer Look At Returnal And Rift Apart's Win
Housemarque's next-gen exclusive beat other game industry bigwigs for the night's Best Game plum. This includes Deathloop from Arkane Lyon/Bethesda, Forza Horizon 5 from Playground Games/Xbox Game Studios, It Takes Two from EA and Hazelight Studios, and fellow PlayStation exclusive Rift Apart.
As for Insomniac's next-gen romp bested several of the game industry's most technically impressive titles. Other nominees include Hitman 3 from IO Interactive, Psychonauts 2 from Double Fine Productions/Xbox Game Studios, Resident Evil Village from Capcom, Forza Horizon 5, and Returnal.

Perhaps the main reason for Rift Apart's victory is its reputation for being one of the best showcases of Sony's next-gen gaming console tech. The PS5's nifty features were shown in full for the entire game, especially the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers, advanced haptic feedback, and the console's Tempest 3D audio.
Other Noteworthy BAFTA Games Awards Winners
Of course, PlayStation didn't walk away with all the awards. Multiple other developers, including Sony's biggest rivals in Microsoft and Xbox, also walked away with new trophies.
Forza Horizon 5, for instance, was named as the Best British Game. This is its latest plum after winning the title of Racing Game of the Year during the DICE Awards, writes RacingGames.gg. Developed by Royal Leamington Spa-based Playground Games, FH5 beat out other titles, including Fights in Tight Spaces, Sable, Death's Door, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, and Overboard.
No Man's Sky, which started as one of the most hated games due to its disastrous launch, is once again proving that it has a new lease on life. It won the Best Evolving Game title for its regular stream of new, interesting content, beating out games like Among Us, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Disco Elysium, and competitive multiplayer juggernauts Apex Legends and Fortnite.
