Age of Mythology Extended Edition Announced, Trailer Shows New Graphics and Features [VIDEO]

Age of Mythology Extended Edition Announced, Out for PC in May

Age of Mythology, the real-time strategy PC game from Ensemble Studios, is getting an updated Extended Edition just 12 years after its 2002 release.

The Age of Mythology Extended Edition includes the full original Age of Mythology and the Titans expansion. This updated version also includes Twitch streaming support, Steamworks integration, an enhanced observer mode, native HD widescreen, and improved water and lighting. It will be available on PC this May, and the trailer below shows off the improvements.

Here are the minimum specifications:

- OS: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.1

- Direct X 10+ Capable GPU

- Direct X Compatible Sound Card

- 3GB RAM

- GPU at least Integrated HD 3000, X1950, 8600GT

Age of Mythology was based on Greek, Norse and Egyptian mythology, with those three cultures serving as playable factions and the basis for the campaign. They have distinct appearances, units, and God powers that balance the game. The story put you in the shoes of fictional hero Arkantos of Atlantis as his path crossed with classic mythological characters like those from The Odyssey. As its name suggests, the gameplay is very similar to that of famed RTS Age of Empires, which was also developed by Ensemble.

Ensemble was shuttered in 2009 after the release of Halo Wars, and several new studios were founded by former employees. One such developer is Robot Entertainment, responsible for Orcs Must Die! and several other titles. Another, Bonfire Studios, was purchased by Zynga and renamed Zynga Dallas, as was Ensemble splinter studio Newtoy, which was renamed Zynga With Friends after its super-popular independent Words With Friends app.
