"Elden Ring" speedrunner Hazeblade is now the new record-holder for FromSoftware's newest "Soulsborne," finishing the entire game in less than 25 minutes.
According to Eurogamer, this is a massive upgrade over previous record-holder Distortion2, who was among the first to post a half-hour speedrun of "Elden Ring" at around 29 minutes. Here is Hazeblade's entire speedrun on YouTube, which shows you just how they managed the feat:
Hazeblade claims that the new world-record "Elden Ring" speedrun was achieved using something called the "Zip Glitch." In a recent post to Twitter, they called the Zip Glitch "really stupid," mainly because it allowed them to skip massive portions of the game when they needed to.
Aside from that, they also used the Warrior class for their playthrough. This is a different choice compared to other "Elden Ring" speedruns, who mainly use the Samurai class.
The so-called Zip Glitch is a teleportation glitch that allows players to zip to locations in seconds much faster than riding their spectral steed, Torrent. And it is pretty easy to perform, too (but only on PC, it seems, so sorry console players). In this tutorial video by the YouTube channel EZScape Clips & VODs, performing the zip is as simple as holding the Guard/Block button and then tapping W to move forward:
As per the video, the zip will allow players to traverse massive portions of The Lands Between safely, assuming they don't overshoot their target locations and fall to their deaths. But in order to make it work, players need to use a software called Autohotkey. Otherwise, it is implied that you wouldn't be able to do it with just the game's base controls/configurations.

'Elden Ring' Speedrunners Are Getting Crafty
Developer FromSoftware has likely seen how "Elden Ring" speedrunners are using all kinds of glitches to perform their feats. As a result, they tried to patch some of these glitches (as well as nerf some pretty OP weapons and abilities) in a recent update, though it didn't seem to do much, according to this video from IGN.
Early half-hour "Elden Ring" speedruns, specifically those of speedrunner Distortion2, made heavy use of the skill Hoarfrost Stomp. Other people were also using items like the Icerind Hatchet and Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes to curb stomp bosses to the ground essentially. But FromSoftware's update 1.0.3 nerfed all of these, which forced many speedrunners to find alternate ways to beat the game fast.
Aside from the Zip glitch used by Hazeblade, other players are looking for alternative items to achieve speedruns. This includes weapons like the Blasphemous Blade or Reduvia dagger, which PCGamer says is pretty "convenient" to upgrade.
There could also be new glitches that are still yet to be discovered, which can meet players to locations much faster than even the Zip glitch. For now, it remains to be seen whether this new speedrun record will be beaten soon or if it will get beaten in a jiffy.
