New 'The Witcher' Game Announced by CD Projekt — Here's What You Have to Know

A new "The Witcher" game has officially been announced by CD Projekt. 

The announcement also highlights that the gupcoming game is in development with Unreal Engine 5 as part of the partnership with Epic Games. 

It should be noted that no further details about the next game in "The Witcher" franchise has been released, including story details as well as release date. 

New 'The Witcher' game Announced by CD Projekt

The next "The Witcher" game has been officially announced by CD Projekt. 

According to the announcement posted by CD Projekt on their official website, "the next installment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development with Unreal Engine 5, kicking off a new saga for the franchise and a new technology partnership with Epic Games."

No further details have been released by the game developer, including a release window or a plot summary. However, a teaser image for the upcoming game has been included in the announcement.

A report by IGN noted that CD Projekt already confirmed in 2020 that the company was planning to return to "The Witcher" after the completion of "Cyberpunk 2077," which was released that year. 

Unreal Engine 5

IGN also points out that the move to Unreal Engine 5 for the next "The Witcher" game is notable due to the fact that CD Projekt previously used their own REDending technology. 

"We are deeply honored by the opportunity to partner with CD PROJEKT RED to push the limits of interactive storytelling and gameplay together, and this effort will benefit the developer community for years to come," Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said of CD Projekt's use of the Unreal Engine 5, as quoted in the official announcement.  

CD Projekt's announcement, however, notes that the Unreal Engine 5 is currently still being used to develop the "Cyberpunk 2077" expansion.

'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' 

The just announced game is the next release of "The Witcher" video game franchise following "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," which came out in 2015. 

The action role-playing game follows the story of monster slayer Geralt of Rivia, otherwise known as The Witcher, as he searches for his adopted daughter. 

CD Projekt notes that the game won 250 Game of the Year awards. Two expansion packs were also added to the game, namely "Blood and Wine" and "Hearts of Stone." 

The game is playable on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. It will be available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this year.
