"The Last Of US" TV series' Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel in the adaptation, has assured fans that the show will "more than live up" to the original game.
IGN reports that Pascal made a claim during a recent interview with German magazine Neelix. In it, he was asked if he feels pressure for the series to deliver, given how successful Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic franchise is.
The "Mandalorian" star says that he has high hopes for the cinematic adaptation of the game, further claiming that he has "absolutely no doubts" that the project will not disappoint both long-time game fans and newcomers to the IP alike.
It seems like Pascal's confidence in the project is singular, which could help some fans rest easy. But that doesn't mean the "Last Of Us" TV series will adapt the game's frame by frame.
While it has been confirmed that the show's first season will cover the story of the first game from 2013, series creator Neil Druckmann said that the season would "deviate greatly" in a few episodes (via IGN). As such, fans will have to be aware of that moving forward.
Nevertheless, the TV adaptation of the critically acclaimed PlayStation franchise is in full swing. While there's still no exact release date for it, the show has been confirmed to have ten episodes in total, which was confirmed by writer Craig Masen (who worked on HBO's "Chernobyl" series), writes CinemaBlend.
Fans also need not be scared that the series will take too many liberties with the story, as game co-creator Neil Druckmann is serving as an executive producer on the show. He has also apparently directed at least one episode, writes ComicBook.com, but it is still unclear which one he took the helm of.
Aside from Druckmann, the show also has Russian director Kantemir Balagov ("Beanpole," "Closeness"), Liza Johnson ("Dead To Me, Barry"), and Jeremy Webb ("Umbrella Academy").
Starring alongside Pascal's Joel is Bella Ramsey as Ellie, who played Lyanna Mormont in the smash-hit HBO series "Game Of Thrones."

Who's Who In 'The Last Of Us' TV Series
Since the show is confirmed to be adapting the story of the first "Last Of Us" game (including the "Left Behind" DLC), don't expect new characters from Naughty Dog's "The Last Of Us Part II" to appear. But some recognizable characters from the first game have been confirmed to appear.
Here are the confirmed actors and actresses as other characters, according to NME:
-
Storm Reid ("Euphoria") as Riley
-
Nick Offerman ("Parks And Recreation") as Bill
-
Gabriel Luna ("Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.") as Joel's brother Tommy
-
Nico Parker ("Dumbo") as Joel's daughter Sarah
-
Merle Dandridge (the voice actor for Marlene) as Marlene
-
Anna Torv ("Fringe") as Tess
This show is part of PlayStation Productions' ambitious goal to adapt a total of 10 movies and TV series based on their IPs (via GameRant). But aside from "The Last Of Us," "Twisted Metal," and the "Uncharted" movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, there's not a lot of hints as to which IPs are being adapted in the foreseeable future.
