The undisputed king of baseball games returns today with MLB 14: The Show out now on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Yesterday saw the exciting start of another MLB season, and now Sony console owners can take this year's experience home or on the road.
MLB: The Show is developed by Sony Computer Entertainment San Diego, which explains the exclusion of any Microsoft consoles since the series' debut in 2006. The franchise puts a lot of emphasis on your player career with deep, rewarding game modes.
The Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera, AL MVP in both of the last two seasons and signatory of a new $248million contract, is the cover athlete of this year's release. Cabrera's 10-year contract extension, when combined with the two years left on his current deal, is an MLB record worth $292million. Canadian players are getting a unique game cover featuring Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie.
The "Road to the Show" mode has been revamped this year, including a new option to return to school if you didn't perform as well as you wanted in the Showcase. Choosing this will continue to age your player, however, so you will be potentially beginning your professional career a few years later than normal if you choose this option.
Matt Vasgersian, Eric Karros, and Steve Lyons will be the voices of the play-by-play action. Mike Carlucci will return as P.A. Announcer.
MLB 14: The Show is available for $60 on PS3 and PS Vita today. The PlayStation 4 version will be released on May 6.
