While we all wait impatiently for Rocksteady to release their third and final Batman game, Batman: Arkham Knight, we can pass the time by playing a more unknown installment in the series. Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - Deluxe Edition has been released today for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
The game was previously only available on the PS Vita and 3DS and has been completely remastered. Unlike its console forebearers, which took the Metroidvania concept and utilized it in an open world, Origins Blackgate is more faithful to the game style, with 2.5D graphics and side-scrolling gameplay.
Batman: Arkham Knight Design Revealed
It works as a sequel to Origins, picking up three months after the events of the game when Batman is summoned to restore peace and order within the walls of Blackgate Prison. Batman will explore the island prison and find many of his arch-enemies playing around in there.
At only $19.99 for a digital download, it's a steal, especially since it was generally regarded as superior to the Batman: Origins that we received on consoles. This may be the definitive version of the game, too. It now features 5.1 surround sound, an all-new map system, new enemy encounters, difficulty levels and batsuits. If you sign up for a Warner Bros. ID (WBID) account you can unlock a new exclusive Zero Year Batman suit as well.
You can pick up Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC (Steam) today, although the PS3 version is hitting tomorrow in Europe and other international territories. The Wii U version will be hitting later this month.
