Dead Body Found Under South Korea's Mapo Bridge During Avengers 2: Age of Ultron Filming

Avengers 2 is Filming, But A Startling Revalation During Shooting Puts a Sad Damper On the Day

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will probably, as the first one was, be awesome.

Unfortunately, something not-so-awesome happened yesterday during the movie's first weekend of filming, as a dead body was found under the Mapo Bridge, an Avengers shooting location for this weekend.

The bridge was closed from 6:00 am until 5:30 pm, which apparently marked the first time the bridge has ever been shut down for a movie.

Kotaku reports that, "Security was tight on set. According to News 1, there were well over a hundred private security guards, 160 South Korean police officers, and numerous volunteers. The set was locked down so tight that it was hard to get a close-up glimpse."

The Mapo Bridge is apparently a hotspot for suicide deaths, so much so that the Korean government has installed anti-suicide technologies on the bridge.

"Last September, one of the most notorious suicide spots, Mapo Bridge, was given a makeover, with its gray guardrails festooned with LED lighting, complemented by comforting and inspirational messages and pictures," The Wall Street Journal's Korea Realtime reported last November. "Pedestrians' movements are detected, prompting slogans to appear: 'The most shining moment of your life has yet to come' or 'Your worries will feel like nothing when you get older' or 'A difficult moment will eventually flow like the river below.'"

There was no report of filming being halted due to the discovery, but that pales in comparison to the loss of a human life. Hopefully the victim's family is OK.
