Hall may have announced his eventual departure from Bohemia Interactive, but he's still going the full nine on his zombie MMO. VG247 took note of Dean Hall's appearance at PC and indie gaming event EGZ Rezzed in the UK, a proper place as any for the developer, whose own DayZ began as a simple mod for Arma II.
At the event, Hall let slip that in as little as two weeks, DayZ could see the next update hit the game, and offered some details as to what it would include.
Hall mentioned the changes that crossbows and bow n' arrows could have on hunting, with bolts and arrows being able to be reclaimed. Hall cited Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as an influence in the decision for the weapons' addition. Players will be able to use them to hunt animals like wolves and bears, which will be added in the third quarter. Dogs and horses were also mentioned as companion animals.
Apart from old school hunter armaments, "newer" weapons are planned, with Hall teasing an AK-47, and upgradable weapon attachments.
Of course, zombies are also a work in progress. The undead bags of flesh will be getting their behavior stabalized. To keep the shamblers and bandits at bay, Hall also said that barricading is in the works, and will change the game drastically.
Other additions include neutral animals, persistent objects, and ragdoll physics. And finally, vehicles starting with bicycles, small cars, and ATVs are on the way, with more advanced vehicles like planes, trucks, boats, and helicopters set to arrive after.
In Hall's own words, the update could release in as early as two weeks as a "best-case scenario." The worst case? End of April.
